History
In September 1967, Mark Bolan met Steve Peregrin Took (born July 28, 1949), who played simple percussion instruments, bongos, Chinese gongs, African drums, goats, and so on. e., and created with him a duet under the exotic name Tyrannosaurus Rex (Latin name for a prehistoric tyrannosaurus).
This duet is due to its brilliant start om jockey John Pyle, who was then a radio station at Radio London. In those days, Radio London was in a state of decline and its administration was not at all interested in what Peele was airing. And the famous disc jockey every night broadcasted the composition of the duo Tyrannosaurus Rex called "Hippy Gumbo". She was so pleased with the listeners that the letters with questions about Bolan were showered. Effective Peale organized a series of concerts in Bolan and Tuk's at the popular London underground club Middle Earth. In 1968, the Bolan-Tuk duo released their debut single with Deborah. This record reached 34 places in the charts and became a sensation in the British Isles, because the duo's music was much different from the popular hits then. Mark sang and played acoustic guitar, while his partner performed on various exotic percussion instruments. Their music was close to folk, but it was classified as "underground" or "flower-power". This last term means "the power of flowers" and it defined the hippie movement and their music.
Following the single "Deborah", the duo's first album appeared - "My People Were Fair and Had Sky in Their Hair ... But Now They ' re Content to Wear Stars on Their Brows », which ranked # 5 in the album chart. Then came the next singles "One Inch Rock" and "Pewter Suitor" and the album "Prophets Seers And Saqes, The Angels of the Ages". 1969 saw the release of the Unicorn album. The aforementioned singles and albums have made significant attempts to enrich the color of the works. Bolan introduced several parallel but differently performed guitar parts, and Tuc's sophisticated percussion instruments varied and dramatized the musical background of the works. The discs featured both simple rock 'n' rolls and sophisticated compositions with a complex melody line. The longer works had more subdued moments, in the background of which John Peale told tales in his programs. Full of unusual associations, the lyrics, unusual dedications and various characters on the album covers (no wonder Bolan spent six months with the Warlock) made the duo very popular on the non-profit underground London stage. There they released the single "King Of The Rumbling Spires", which rose to 44 steps on US charts. Bolan returned to the UK without his partner, who soon formed his own Shagrat band, and after his breakup was a member of The Pink Fairies.
After Mickey Finn returned Bolan to Mickey Finn ), who remained with Bolan until 1975. Together, they released the album A Beard of Stars, after which the duo changed their name to T.Rex. - Members - Discography - Albums like Tyrannosaurus Rex - Year
