The original name of the groups - Erben der Schöpfung. It was a trio that included keyboardist Oliver Falk, guitarist Pete Straight and vocalist Sabina Dunser (June 27, 1977 - July 8, 2006). In 2001, they released their first single, “Elis,” followed by Twilight. In order not to be limited to studio activities, the group was replenished with guitarist Jürgen Broger, drummer Frankie Keller and bassist Tom Saxer. The group gave many successful concerts, performed at Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig, got into DAC-Charts and received many flattering reviews in the press, for example, the German gothic magazine Orkus called them the best opening of the month, and then 2001. Suddenly, despite the success of the group, it was left by the founder, Oliver Falk (it came to court). The rest had to change the name, since it was Oliver who had the rights to it. The team, without thinking twice, took the name Elis - by the name of their most famous song and debut single. The new name is also associated with the poem of An den Knaben Elis by George Trakl, Sabina's favorite poet.
The newly-minted team immediately went to Mastersound Studio with producer Alex Krull (Atrocity, Leaves' Eyes), where they started recording the album. After the recording was completed, the group managed to sign a contract with Napalm Records, and the release of "God’s silence, devil’s temptation" took place on August 18, 2003. At the same time, the debut disc Erben Der Schopfung - 'Twilight' was reissued. The band goes on tour in Europe with Eishelig and The visions bleak. At the same time, Elis was preparing material for the next album. In March 2004, they again entered the Mastersound studio. A new album, “Dark clouds in a perfect sky” was released on October 4 of that year, again under the direction of Alex Krull. It contained 11 tracks and a bonus, a cover version of the song M. McKee "Show me heaven". A video was shot for the song “Der letzte tag”. The team tested the new material in public at the Wave Gotik Treffen and M’era Luna festivals, and then went on a European tour with Atrocity, Leaves' Eyes and Battlelore. After changing the composition, the musicians again went to the studio with new ideas for the third album.
The album was ready, the release was planned for the summer, but the terrible events of July 7, 2006 caused a delay in the release of the album: during a rehearsal, Sabina had a brain hemorrhage . She died in the hospital the next day.
The vocalist’s death knocked out the musicians, they removed the site from the network and did not respond to e-mails. But still they decided to release the album, because Sabina treated him like her child ... "Griefshire" was released on November 24, 2006. Elis announced their decision not to cease to exist and set about searching for a new vocalist. She became Sandra Schleret (Sandra Schleret), previously known as vocalist Dreams of Sanity and Siegfried, she also participated in the recordings of Samael. Her first record with Elis was the 2007 single “Show Me the Way”. The band’s new album with Sandra Schleret, called Catharsis, was released on November 27, 2009.
On May 8, 2011, a message appeared on the band’s official page stating that Sandra was leaving the group due to creative differences. On June 16, all on the same page there was news that Simone Christinat (Simone Kristinat), formerly a vocalist in such bands as Legenda Aurea and Felony, became the new vocalist of the group. However, already at the end of February 2012, she also leaves the group, according to her, due to very great stress, and the group decides to cease to exist. Composition
