Alec Papariga ( Greek Αλέκα Παπαρήγα; born November 5, 1945, Athens, Greece) - Secretary General of the Communist Party of Greece (1991–2013). She was the first (and still remains) the only woman to hold the post of Secretary General of the KKE.
Biography
She graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Athens. After graduation, she worked in various commercial companies and as a private teacher. Since 1961, she participated in the World Peace Movement, as well as in the student department of the left-wing youth organization EDA. She was the secretary of the youth democratic organization named after Lamprakis.
In 1968 she joined the KKE, where she was actively involved in helping families of political prisoners. He is a founding member of the Federation of Women's Societies of Greece. She participated in many international congresses of the World Democratic Federation of Women and the UN.
In 1978, she was elected at the 10th congress of the KKE as a member of the Central Committee of the party, and in 1986 - a member of the Politburo of the KKE. On February 27, 1991, at the 13th Congress of the KKE, she was elected Secretary General of the Central Committee, ahead of her opponent by only four votes [1]. She was re-elected to the post of Secretary General in 1996 and 2009. [1]. In 1993, she was first elected to the Greek Parliament.
From the 19th Congress of the Communist Party of Greece, Dimitris Kutsumbas replaced her as Secretary General of the KKE, Aleka Papariga was elected a member Central Committee of the KKE [2].
Widow of the famous journalist Athanasius Paparig, has a daughter.
