The first generation
Developing its success in the North American market, Honda released a full-size model of the Legend business class sedan in October 1985, thereby deciding to compete directly with BMW and Mercedes-Benz brands, which was impossible to imagine at the end 70s Such a bold initiative of the most extraordinary Japanese manufacturer initially did not bode well for market prospects, but helped break the stereotype of consumers who believed that the Japanese could not produce anything respectable. But gradually they appreciated the competent design and extensive experience of the company in the production of power units capable of withstanding a high rate of driving for a long time. Salon Honda Legend at first was a typical Japanese interior of a middle class car. Something similar could be seen in cars Nissan Cedric, Nissan Skyline, Toyota Cressida - characteristic Japanese middle class. Subsequently, by constantly expanding the list of standard equipment, Honda put the Legend model at the equipment level into market leaders and, of course, ahead of European cars of a similar class in the American market, which was the initial calculation.
In February 1987 the four-seater coupe was presented, sales of which in the USA were organized through the new distribution network of the luxury brand Acura, owned by Honda. Although the Legend Coupe’s body is two-door, the entrance and exit of passengers from the back row and the seats are quite comfortable (when compared with similar European models like the Mercedes-Benz SEC or BMW 6-er). From 1988, they began to install a complex double-lever rear suspension. In addition, Japanese and Euro-American models received a different design of the front parts of the body (there were no other differences, which makes life easier for second-hand buyers). A wide range of installed additional equipment and power units are also unified, so the specific country of purchase of the car is not important. Honda Legend in this regard does not create additional problems, just need to specify what type of engine, gearbox installed on the car, as well as the exact year of production.
Originally Legend was completed with a 2-liter V6 petrol engine with a capacity of 145 liters. pp., but since this was not enough for customers, since September 1987 the versions with a 2.7-liter V-shaped six-cylinder 180-horsepower engine with good torque, the maximum value of which reaches 226 Nm / 4500 min, went on sale. . For high acceleration dynamics (8.9 s to 100 km / h), we had to pay a high fuel appetite, which, when driving in the city (with an automatic transmission), can be 15-16 liters per 100 km. At the same time at a speed of 90-120 km / h gasoline consumption remains in the range of 9-11 liters per 100 km. There was a turbo version. Accurate steering with a variable depending on the speed and soft suspension is especially good on new models, but the shock absorbers do not withstand long-term intensive use (especially on our roads), which leads to breakage of the levers and suspension elements. At the transmission nodes it also affects. After a year of operation in Russia, problems may arise with an automatic gearbox, final drive and CV joints.
Second generation
Also produced in the coupe. The second generation licensed by Daewoo Motors, was produced from 1993 to 2000 under the name Daewoo Arcadia. The Legend model was developed by Honda, primarily to penetrate the promising and prestigious North American market. This goal was achieved, but gradually the market began to demand a little change in the “status” of this car. In this regard, in 1990, debuted the machine of the second generation of the Legend family. The length of its body was almost 5 meters, which gave it a much more solid look than its predecessor, which was fairly perceived as somewhat "lightweight." Following the requirements of the market, the manufacturer changed not only the size and exterior design, but also made changes aimed at improving the ride quality. The engine still remained V-shaped with 6 cylinders, but its working volume was increased to 3.2 liters. Developed power was 205 liters. with. that for such a body was more than enough. The engine was positioned so that it was possible to best balance the weight of the car. In particular, being a front-wheel drive car, it demonstrated such maneuverability, which put it on a par with the very best models of rear-wheel drive cars. Significant role in improving ride quality played a change in the design of the suspension. Now each of the 4 wheels mounted on the body through two parallel wishbones (double wishbones). In 1993, the lineup added to the Touring series. The machines of this series were equipped with a new engine, on which the intake and exhaust systems were modified. After these changes, the engine could develop a power of 235 liters. p.

The third generation Legend began to be produced in 1996. It continued the concept of its predecessors: The body size slightly increased with the base remaining unchanged. Like the previous generation, it is equipped with a 24-valve V6 engine;
however, if in the previous generation the engine capacity was 3.2 liters, but now it has increased to 3.5 liters.
Power remained the same - 205 liters. with., increased torque.
On the Legend used independent suspension of all four wheels, is rightly the pride of Honda. Thanks to her, the car has an easy, smooth ride, which, in fact, has become one of the attractive sides of this model. Driving performance Legend is not inferior to other first-class cars. In addition, it should be particularly noted that when driving a car, a relatively high level of noiselessness was achieved. Of course, there is some noise from the engine, but low noise was obtained due to the maximum reduction in wind sound due to the shape of the body, which has excellent aerodynamics, and sound insulation system.
In addition, the car has a beautiful design and interior equipment. The interior is very comfortable due to the presence in it of special seats that absorb vibration. In 1998, as a result of the restyling, the radiator grille became larger and the body became tougher.

Presented on October 7, 2004 Thanks to state-of-the-art technologies combined with innovative comfort and safety systems, the new Honda Legend rightfully takes its place in the first row of luxury four-door sedans. True to its sporting direction, Honda in its new premium model offers a comfortable lounge with elements of a sporty style.
The elegant design of the Legend corresponds to its status, while the dynamic lines of the body reflect sporting temperament, hinting at engine power. A characteristic feature of the front is a sloping hood. When viewed from the side, the fast-moving lines of the body, the shape of the windows and the short, massive rear end further emphasize the wedge-shaped Legend. The new Legend is 20 mm taller and 25 mm wider than the previous model. The overall overall length, however, has decreased by 38 mm, and the wheelbase by 110 mm. The length of the passenger compartment has increased by 30 mm, and the height by 40 mm. As a result, despite the reduction in overall length, the interior has become more spacious. Passengers can still enjoy its elegance, ergonomics, and excellent finish.
Equipped with a 3.5 liter (3,471 cm ³) V-shaped 6-cylinder engine with a capacity of 295 liters. with a VTEC system.
Honda Legend was voted the Car of the Year in Japan (2004–2005).
In 2005, the technology of all-wheel drive “SH-AWD” (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) received the nomination “Technology Years "RJC Awards (Japan). Select-Shift technology was applied for a 5-speed automatic transmission.
