NBA Rookie of the Year Award

The NBA Rookie of the Year Award is given to the best performing basketball player of the rookies every year since the 1952-1953 season. The winner is selected by American and Canadian sports writers. Each sportswriter has the right to vote for the first three and the third most favored players. Each sportswriter gives 5 points for the first, 3 points for the second and 1 point for the third. NBA Rookie of the Year is the basketball player with the highest number of points. [1]
Kyrie Irving of Cleveland Cavaliers won the award. Of the athletes who won the NBA Rookie of the Year, 12 of them won the NBA's Most Valuable Player Award. Wilt Chamberlain and Wes Unseld are the two players who have won the MVP Award and the Rookie of the Year award in the same year.
The three seasons were shared between the two: Dave Cowens and Geoff Petrie Grant Hill and Jason Kidd 1994– 95 and Elton Brand and Steve Francis shared the award in the 1999 ödül2000 season. [2] Only three of the award-winning basketball players are not US-born. These players are Tim Duncan of the US Virgin Islands, Patrick Ewing of Jamaica and Pau Gasol of Spain. Duncan is an American citizen but cannot represent the United States in the international arena. [3] Patrick Ewing from Jamaica then became an American citizen and represented the US at the 1984 Summer Olympics.

Notes
a Players who won the NBA MVP in the same year.
b Despite being drafted by the Cincinnati Royals in 1962, J erry Lucas did not sign the contract until 1963. Because he was trying to sign a contract with Cleveland Pipers of the American Basketball League that season. However, when the contract was not signed, he did not play until the end of the season and the rookie season with the Royals began in the 1963-64 NBA season. He didn't play in the NBA. So Bird's rookie season with Celtics began in the 1979–80 season. [5]
d Patrick Ewing was born in Jamaica. However, he became a US citizen while studying at Georgetown University. [6] Ewing represented the United States in the national team and played for the United States National Basketball Team at the 1984 Summer Olympics. [7]
e Although David Robinson was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in 1987, David Robinson was a member of the US Navy. He did not play in the NBA until 1989. [8] Robinson's rookie season in the league is therefore the 1989–90 season. [9]
Tim Duncan Since he received US citizenship from birth, such as the Virgin Islands, [10] he can wear the US jersey in the national team. [11]
