The Weirton–Steubenville Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, is part of the Pittsburgh Tri-State area CSA1 Weirton–Steubenville consists of two counties in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia and one in Ohio, anchored by the cities of Weirton, West Virginia, and Steubenville, Ohio As of the 2000 census, the MSA had a population of 132,008 though a July 1, 2009 estimate placed the population at 120,9292

The median income for a household in the MSA was $32,531, and the median income for a family was $39,825 Males had a median income of $34,998 versus $19,729 for females The per capita income for the MSA was $17,110
