Thompson is a city in Grand Forks County, North Dakota, United States It is part of the "Grand Forks, ND-MN Metropolitan Statistical Area" or "Greater Grand Forks" It is located on the border of Allendale and Walle townships, with Walle on the east and Allendale on the west The population was 986 at the 2010 census5 Thompson was founded in 1881

The S&T Quick Stop was previously and more widely, also better, known as Tim's Quick Stop

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 047 square miles 122 km2, of which, 046 square miles 119 km2 is land and 001 square miles 003 km2 is water1

As of the census2 of 2010, there were 986 people, 356 households, and 293 families residing in the city The population density was 2,1435 inhabitants per square mile 8276/km2 There were 362 housing units at an average density of 7870 per square mile 3039/km2 The racial makeup of the city was 981% White, 03% African American, 10% Native American, 01% Asian, 01% from other races, and 04% from two or more races Hispanic or Latino of any race were 09% of the population

There were 356 households of which 421% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 730% were married couples living together, 70% had a female householder with no husband present, 22% had a male householder with no wife present, and 177% were non-families 149% of all households were made up of individuals and 48% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older The average household size was 277 and the average family size was 304

The median age in the city was 368 years 284% of residents were under the age of 18; 69% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 272% were from 25 to 44; 305% were from 45 to 64; and 71% were 65 years of age or older The gender makeup of the city was 510% male and 490% female

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,006 people, 329 households, and 273 families residing in the city The population density was 2,1776 people per square mile 8444/km2 There were 339 housing units at an average density of 7338 per square mile 2845/km2 The racial makeup of the city was 9771% White, 040% African American, 010% Native American, 070% Asian, 020% from other races, and 089% from two or more races Hispanic or Latino of any race were 080% of the population

There were 329 households out of which 532% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 745% were married couples living together, 43% had a female householder with no husband present, and 170% were non-families 152% of all households were made up of individuals and 64% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older The average household size was 306 and the average family size was 343
