Historyedit

the former Brampton Lutheran Church

In 1997 the Brampton Lutheran Church originally built in 1908 was moved to Sletta near Radøy in Norway and reconstructed there It is now called Emigrantkirka Emigrant Church

The Sargent County Courthouse, a Beaux Arts-style building built in 1910, is listed on the US National Register of Historic Places

According to the US Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 867 square miles 2,250 km2, of which 859 square miles 2,220 km2 is land and 84 square miles 22 km2 10% is water5

As of the census of 2000, there were 4,366 people, 1,786 households, and 1,243 families residing in the county The population density was 5 people per square mile 2/km² There were 2,016 housing units at an average density of 2 per square mile 1/km² The racial makeup of the county was 9824% White, 005% Black or African American, 046% Native American, 005% Asian, 055% from other races, and 066% from two or more races 073% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race 375% were of German and 354% Norwegian ancestry

There were 1,786 households out of which 3030% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 6100% were married couples living together, 390% had a female householder with no husband present, and 3040% were non-families 2770% of all households were made up of individuals and 1410% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older The average household size was 243 and the average family size was 299

In the county, the population was spread out with 2650% under the age of 18, 530% from 18 to 24, 2570% from 25 to 44, 2570% from 45 to 64, and 1690% who were 65 years of age or older The median age was 40 years For every 100 females there were 11060 males For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 11010 males

The median income for a household in the county was $37,213, and the median income for a family was $44,063 Males had a median income of $34,222 versus $19,844 for females The per capita income for the county was $18,689 About 600% of families and 820% of the population were below the poverty line, including 890% of those under age 18 and 1180% of those age 65 or over

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 3,829 people, 1,675 households, and 1,113 families residing in the county11 The population density was 45 inhabitants per square mile 17/km2 There were 2,004 housing units at an average density of 23 per square mile 089/km212 The racial makeup of the county was 980% white, 05% American Indian, 02% Asian, 01% Pacific islander, 01% black or African American, 03% from other races, and 07% from two or more races Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 13% of the population11 In terms of ancestry, 513% were German, 359% were Norwegian, 118% were Swedish, 84% were Irish, and 30% were American13

Of the 1,675 households, 271% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 573% were married couples living together, 47% had a female householder with no husband present, 336% were non-families, and 302% of all households were made up of individuals The average household size was 226 and the average family size was 279 The median age was 459 years11

The median income for a household in the county was $49,318 and the median income for a family was $59,531 Males had a median income of $43,594 versus $30,152 for females The per capita income for the county was $26,553 About 57% of families and 78% of the population were below the poverty line, including 105% of those under age 18 and 104% of those age 65 or over14
