Ramsey County is a county located in the US state of North Dakota As of the 2010 census, the population was 11,4511 Its county seat is Devils Lake2 The county was created by the 1872-73 territorial legislature and organized on January 25, 18833 It was named for Alexander Ramsey, a US Senator from Minnesota4

According to the US Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,301 square miles 3,370 km2, of which 1,187 square miles 3,070 km2 is land and 114 square miles 300 km2 88% is water5

As of the census of 2000, there were 12,066 people, 4,957 households, and 3,187 families residing in the county The population density was 10 people per square mile 4/km² There were 5,729 housing units at an average density of 5 per square mile 2/km² The racial makeup of the county was 9231% White, 021% Black or African American, 540% Native American, 026% Asian, 002% Pacific Islander, 017% from other races, and 164% from two or more races 052% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race 377% were of German and 337% Norwegian ancestry

There were 4,957 households out of which 2990% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 5180% were married couples living together, 850% had a female householder with no husband present, and 3570% were non-families 3110% of all households were made up of individuals and 1460% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older The average household size was 234 and the average family size was 294

In the county, the population was spread out with 2500% under the age of 18, 800% from 18 to 24, 2590% from 25 to 44, 2230% from 45 to 64, and 1880% who were 65 years of age or older The median age was 40 years For every 100 females there were 9740 males For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 9440 males

The median income for a household in the county was $35,600, and the median income for a family was $42,439 Males had a median income of $29,562 versus $18,629 for females The per capita income for the county was $18,060 About 870% of families and 1260% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1690% of those under age 18 and 800% of those age 65 or over

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 11,451 people, 4,955 households, and 3,008 families residing in the county11 The population density was 96 inhabitants per square mile 37/km2 There were 5,615 housing units at an average density of 47 per square mile 18/km212 The racial makeup of the county was 877% white, 87% American Indian, 04% black or African American, 04% Asian, 02% from other races, and 26% from two or more races Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 12% of the population11 In terms of ancestry, 419% were German, 377% were Norwegian, 70% were Irish, 57% were Swedish, 52% were English, and 29% were American13

Of the 4,955 households, 275% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 470% were married couples living together, 95% had a female householder with no husband present, 393% were non-families, and 345% of all households were made up of individuals The average household size was 221 and the average family size was 282 The median age was 430 years11

The median income for a household in the county was $41,792 and the median income for a family was $56,632 Males had a median income of $41,274 versus $25,171 for females The per capita income for the county was $24,130 About 87% of families and 115% of the population were below the poverty line, including 167% of those under age 18 and 154% of those age 65 or over14
