Oliver County is a county located in the US state of North Dakota As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,846,1 making it the fifth-least populous county in North Dakota Its county seat and only city is Center2

The county was created by the 1885 territorial legislature and was organized on May 18, 18853 It was named for Harry S Oliver of Lisbon, North Dakota 1855-1909, a Republican politician and member of the Dakota Territory House of Representatives at the time Sanger Raymond was the county seat from 1885 to 1902, when the title went to Center4

Oliver County is included in the Bismarck, ND Metropolitan Statistical Area

According to the US Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 731 square miles 1,890 km2, of which 723 square miles 1,870 km2 is land and 87 square miles 23 km2 12% is water5 It is the fifth-smallest county in North Dakota by area

As of the census of 2000, there were 2,065 people, 791 households, and 604 families residing in the county The population density was 1/km² 3/sq mi There were 903 housing units at an average density of 0/km² 1/sq mi The racial makeup of the county was 9758% White, 015% Black or African American, 126% Native American, 010% Asian, and 092% from two or more races 063% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race 592% were of German, 136% Norwegian and 65% American ancestry

There were 791 households out of which 3550% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 6920% were married couples living together, 390% had a female householder with no husband present, and 2360% were non-families 2100% of all households were made up of individuals and 1070% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older The average household size was 261 and the average family size was 305

In the county, the population was spread out with 2740% under the age of 18, 470% from 18 to 24, 2350% from 25 to 44, 3010% from 45 to 64, and 1420% who were 65 years of age or older The median age was 42 years For every 100 females there were 10750 males For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 10620 males

The median income for a household in the county was $36,650, and the median income for a family was $45,430 Males had a median income of $40,577 versus $19,015 for females The per capita income for the county was $16,271 About 1120% of families and 1490% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2360% of those under age 18 and 1390% of those age 65 or over

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 1,846 people, 756 households, and 554 families residing in the county11 The population density was 26 inhabitants per square mile 10/km2 There were 905 housing units at an average density of 13 per square mile 050/km212 The racial makeup of the county was 973% white, 15% American Indian, 02% black or African American, 02% Asian, 02% from other races, and 07% from two or more races Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 10% of the population11 In terms of ancestry, 668% were German, 193% were Norwegian, 76% were Russian, 63% were English, and 44% were American13

Of the 756 households, 250% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 655% were married couples living together, 48% had a female householder with no husband present, 267% were non-families, and 226% of all households were made up of individuals The average household size was 244 and the average family size was 284 The median age was 476 years11

The median income for a household in the county was $62,308 and the median income for a family was $75,069 Males had a median income of $60,592 versus $28,409 for females The per capita income for the county was $29,348 About 65% of families and 97% of the population were below the poverty line, including 130% of those under age 18 and 196% of those age 65 or over14
