Logan County is a county located in the US state of North Dakota As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,9902 Its county seat is Napoleon3

Logan County was created by the 1872-1873 territorial legislature and named for John A Logan 1826-1886, a Civil War general and United States Senator from Illinois It was organized on September 1, 18844 Napoleon was the county seat from 1884 to 1899 King became the county seat briefly in 1899 before Napoleon once again was given that title5

As of the census of 2000, there were 2,308 people, 963 households, and 659 families residing in the county The population density was 2 people per square mile 1/km² There were 1,193 housing units at an average density of 1 per square mile 0/km² The racial makeup of the county was 9918% White, 009% Black or African American, 013% Native American, 017% Asian, 013% from other races, and 030% from two or more races 069% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race 750% were of German, 70% Norwegian and 56% American ancestry

There were 963 households out of which 2580% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 6310% were married couples living together, 310% had a female householder with no husband present, and 3150% were non-families 2920% of all households were made up of individuals and 1600% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older The average household size was 232 and the average family size was 288

In the county, the population was spread out with 2260% under the age of 18, 360% from 18 to 24, 2180% from 25 to 44, 2500% from 45 to 64, and 2700% who were 65 years of age or older The median age was 46 years For every 100 females there were 9830 males For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 9560 males

The median income for a household in the county was $27,986, and the median income for a family was $33,125 Males had a median income of $23,750 versus $18,269 for females The per capita income for the county was $16,947 About 1260% of families and 1510% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1620% of those under age 18 and 1880% of those age 65 or over

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 1,990 people, 843 households, and 562 families residing in the county12 The population density was 20 inhabitants per square mile 077/km2 There were 1,144 housing units at an average density of 12 per square mile 046/km213 The racial makeup of the county was 984% white, 05% American Indian, 03% Asian, 01% black or African American, 01% from other races, and 07% from two or more races Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 06% of the population12 In terms of ancestry, 760% were German, 162% were Russian, 99% were Norwegian, and 63% were American14

Of the 843 households, 218% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 614% were married couples living together, 30% had a female householder with no husband present, 333% were non-families, and 308% of all households were made up of individuals The average household size was 228 and the average family size was 284 The median age was 498 years12

The median income for a household in the county was $41,741 and the median income for a family was $52,262 Males had a median income of $34,451 versus $22,284 for females The per capita income for the county was $21,654 About 83% of families and 109% of the population were below the poverty line, including 75% of those under age 18 and 189% of those age 65 or over15
