A post office has been in operation at Hazen since 18857 A D Hazen, an early postmaster, gave the settlement its name8 Hazen was laid out in 1913, when the railroad was extended to that point9

As of the census2 of 2010, there were 2,411 people, 1,020 households, and 742 families residing in the city The population density was 1,8984 inhabitants per square mile 7330/km2 There were 1,074 housing units at an average density of 8457 per square mile 3265/km2 The racial makeup of the city was 966% White, 04% African American, 18% Native American, 03% Asian, 01% Pacific Islander, 03% from other races, and 06% from two or more races Hispanic or Latino of any race were 12% of the population

There were 1,020 households of which 290% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 631% were married couples living together, 65% had a female householder with no husband present, 31% had a male householder with no wife present, and 273% were non-families 246% of all households were made up of individuals and 91% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older The average household size was 233 and the average family size was 275

The median age in the city was 452 years 226% of residents were under the age of 18; 52% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 219% were from 25 to 44; 358% were from 45 to 64; and 146% were 65 years of age or older The gender makeup of the city was 501% male and 499% female
