Harvey is a city in Wells County, North Dakota, United States The population was 1,783 at the 2010 census5 Harvey was founded in 1893 as a division point by the Soo Line Railway Harvey is believed to have been named for a director of the Soo Line Railway, Col Scott William Harvey of Minneapolis, Minnesota6

As of the census2 of 2010, there were 1,783 people, 824 households, and 476 families residing in the city The population density was 9484 inhabitants per square mile 3662/km2 There were 997 housing units at an average density of 5303 per square mile 2047/km2 The racial makeup of the city was 985% White, 01% African American, 06% Native American, 01% Pacific Islander, 01% from other races, and 07% from two or more races Hispanic or Latino of any race were 10% of the population

There were 824 households of which 201% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 476% were married couples living together, 73% had a female householder with no husband present, 29% had a male householder with no wife present, and 422% were non-families 396% of all households were made up of individuals and 215% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older The average household size was 203 and the average family size was 268

The median age in the city was 515 years 187% of residents were under the age of 18; 48% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 179% were from 25 to 44; 265% were from 45 to 64; and 322% were 65 years of age or older The gender makeup of the city was 455% male and 545% female

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,989 people, 926 households, and 529 families residing in the city The population density was 1,0318 people per square mile 3979/km² There were 1,056 housing units at an average density of 5478 per square mile 2113/km² The racial makeup of the city was 9920% White, 050% Native American, 015% Asian, 005% from other races, and 010% from two or more races Hispanic or Latino of any race were 050% of the population

There were 926 households out of which 215% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 496% were married couples living together, 57% had a female householder with no husband present, and 428% were non-families Of all households 407% were made up of individuals and 243% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older The average household size was 203 and the average family size was 273

In the city, the population was spread out with 193% under the age of 18, 49% from 18 to 24, 210% from 25 to 44, 231% from 45 to 64, and 317% who were 65 years of age or older The median age was 49 years For every 100 females there were 845 males For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 790 males

The median income for a household in the city was $33,017, and the median income for a family was $45,250 Males had a median income of $31,429 versus $16,534 for females The per capita income for the city was $21,477 About 66% of families and 120% of the population were below the poverty line, including 82% of those under age 18 and 244% of those age 65 or over
