Crawford County is a county located in the US state of Ohio As of the 2010 census, the population was 43,7841 The approximate population as of 2014 is 42,480, causing a -300% change over the past 4 years, according to the United States Census Bureau Its county seat is Bucyrus2 The county was created in 1820 and later organized in 18363 It was named for Colonel William Crawford, a soldier during the American Revolution4

Crawford County comprises the Bucyrus, OH Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Mansfield-Ashland-Bucyrus, OH Combined Statistical Area

According to the US Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 403 square miles 1,040 km2, of which 402 square miles 1,040 km2 is land and 09 square miles 23 km2 02% is water5 It is the fourth-smallest county in Ohio by total area

The county is drained by the Sandusky and Olentangy Rivers

As of the census11 of 2000, there were 46,966 people, 18,957 households, and 13,175 families residing in the county The population density was 117 people per square mile 45/km² There were 20,178 housing units at an average density of 50 per square mile 19/km² The racial makeup of the county was 9799% White, 059% Black or African American, 020% Native American, 031% Asian, 002% Pacific Islander, 024% from other races, and 065% from two or more races 077% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race 404% were of German, 214% American, 81% English and 78% Irish ancestry according to Census 2000

There were 18,957 households out of which 3120% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 5510% were married couples living together, and 3050% were non-families 2630% of all households were made up of individuals and 1150% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older The average household size was 245 and the average family size was 294

In the county, the population was spread out with 2490% under the age of 18, 800% from 18 to 24, 2760% from 25 to 44, 2430% from 45 to 64, and 1520% who were 65 years of age or older The median age was 38 years For every 100 females there were 9340 males For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 9080 males

The median income for a household in the county was $36,227, and the median income for a family was $43,169 Males had a median income of $33,319 versus $21,346 for females The per capita income for the county was $17,466 About 780% of families and 1040% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1370% of those under age 18 and 750% of those age 65 or over

According to the United States Census Bureau, women make up about 513% of the population, as of 2014

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 43,784 people, 18,099 households, and 12,108 families residing in the county12 The population density was 1090 inhabitants per square mile 421/km2 There were 20,167 housing units at an average density of 502 per square mile 194/km213 The racial makeup of the county was 972% white, 09% black or African American, 04% Asian, 01% American Indian, 03% from other races, and 11% from two or more races Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 12% of the population12 In terms of ancestry, 433% were German, 143% were Irish, 137% were American, and 110% were English14

Of the 18,099 households, 299% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 506% were married couples living together, 115% had a female householder with no husband present, 331% were non-families, and 284% of all households were made up of individuals The average household size was 239 and the average family size was 289 The median age was 419 years12

The median income for a household in the county was $41,228 and the median income for a family was $49,647 Males had a median income of $40,304 versus $28,118 for females The per capita income for the county was $20,590 About 108% of families and 130% of the population were below the poverty line, including 213% of those under age 18 and 62% of those age 65 or over15
