As of the census2 of 2010, there were 984 people, 477 households, and 254 families residing in the city The population density was 1,0144 inhabitants per square mile 3917/km2 There were 543 housing units at an average density of 5598 per square mile 2161/km2 The racial makeup of the city was 992% White, 02% African American, 01% Native American, 04% Asian, and 01% from other races Hispanic or Latino of any race were 03% of the population

There were 477 households of which 210% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 442% were married couples living together, 48% had a female householder with no husband present, 42% had a male householder with no wife present, and 468% were non-families 442% of all households were made up of individuals and 241% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older The average household size was 196 and the average family size was 269

The median age in the city was 523 years 199% of residents were under the age of 18; 38% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 181% were from 25 to 44; 284% were from 45 to 64; and 299% were 65 years of age or older The gender makeup of the city was 470% male and 530% female

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,053 people, 489 households, and 270 families residing in the city The population density was 1,1282 people per square mile 4372/km² There were 563 housing units at an average density of 6032 per square mile 2337/km² The racial makeup of the city was 9886% White, 019% Native American, 028% Asian, 038% from other races, and 028% from two or more races Hispanic or Latino of any race were 095% of the population

There were 489 households out of which 229% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 483% were married couples living together, 57% had a female householder with no husband present, and 446% were non-families 423% of all households were made up of individuals and 260% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older The average household size was 204 and the average family size was 279

In the city, the population was spread out with 200% under the age of 18, 47% from 18 to 24, 203% from 25 to 44, 229% from 45 to 64, and 321% who were 65 years of age or older The median age was 48 years For every 100 females there were 847 males For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 838 males

The median income for a household in the city was $28,705, and the median income for a family was $41,307 Males had a median income of $26,688 versus $17,083 for females The per capita income for the city was $17,334 About 55% of families and 105% of the population were below the poverty line, including 117% of those under age 18 and 112% of those age 65 or over
