Cando /ˈkænduː/ KAN-doo is a city in Towner County, North Dakota, United States It is the county seat of Towner County5 The population was 1,115 at the 2010 census6 Cando was founded in 1884

Historyedit

Cando was founded in 1884 as the seat of the newly formed Towner County7 It was named from the pioneers' "can do" spirit8 The Great Northern Railway was extended to Cando in 18887

As of the census2 of 2010, there were 1,115 people, 518 households, and 309 families residing in the city The population density was 1,7698 inhabitants per square mile 6833/km2 There were 701 housing units at an average density of 1,1127 per square mile 4296/km2 The racial makeup of the city was 961% White, 02% African American, 23% Native American, 02% from other races, and 13% from two or more races Hispanic or Latino of any race were 05% of the population

There were 518 households of which 245% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 463% were married couples living together, 97% had a female householder with no husband present, 37% had a male householder with no wife present, and 403% were non-families 380% of all households were made up of individuals and 222% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older The average household size was 208 and the average family size was 269

The median age in the city was 493 years 203% of residents were under the age of 18; 6% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 167% were from 25 to 44; 311% were from 45 to 64; and 257% were 65 years of age or older The gender makeup of the city was 480% male and 520% female

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,342 people, 595 households, and 345 families residing in the city The population density was 2,1783 people per square mile 8357/km2 There were 707 housing units at an average density of 1,1476 per square mile 4403/km2 The racial makeup of the city was 9724% White, 007% African American, 216% Native American, 015% Asian, and 037% from two or more races Hispanic or Latino of any race were 015% of the population

There were 595 households out of which 259% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 497% were married couples living together, 54% had a female householder with no husband present, and 420% were non-families 402% of all households were made up of individuals and 244% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older The average household size was 215 and the average family size was 288
