A new howitzer to replace the M1909 and 152-mm howitzer M1910 in the early 1930s Red Army (RKKA) 152-mm howitzer These guns were developed during World War I. In this way, the Soviet artillery systems taken from the Germans, the Soviets were named 152-mm mortar M1931 (NM) and 152-mm mortar M1931 (NG). In a short time, the production of NM models started in Motovilikha Mechanical Plant (MMZ) factory. Between 1932 and 1934, however, only 8 guns were produced and then stopped. The main reason for this was that the production of cannons was too complex for the Soviets. For example, the 122-mm howitzer M1934 or 20-mm and 37-mm automatic guns could not be produced for the same reason. Arica ball carrying weight was 5,445 kg. But even these failures gave Soviet engineers useful experience.
In 1937 F. F. Petrov and his design team began working on the M-10 design at the Motovilikha Ordonat Factory. Technical drawings! It was delivered to the Artillery Division in August 1937 and the first prototype was produced on 2 November. Two guns were tried in the land trials (19 October - 25 October 1938). 302 (L / 25 calibrated groove); 303 (L / 20 caliber and groove can be made). No. 303 found very successful. Trials also revealed some construction errors of the ball. Army tests continued until the beginning of 1939 and the length of the gun barrel was extended. M-10 model In 1939, Plant No. 172 was put into production in the factory. By the end of the year, 4 pieces were produced, 685 in 1940 and 833 in 1941. One model was used in the KV-2 assault tank. Organization and use
In 1939, the regiments within each artillery division had artillery shells consisting of 12 152 mm obes. These units were canceled in July 1941.
In 1944, every artillery corps belonging to the Red Army had one artillery regiment. Each regiment consisted of 5 battalions. (20 guns in total), 152-mm howitzer, 122-mm or 107-mm cannons were working with.

The M-10 project gave RKKA (Red Army) artillery corps superiority in motion and firepower with 152-mm howitzers. Compared to howitzers of the same caliber, the M-10s were lighter, although they had a shorter range.
